CYBER TERRORISM: Measures for suppression and prevention

Luknar, Ivana. 2022. Cyberterrorism: Measures for Suppression and Prevention. Belgrade: Institute for Political Studies. ISBN 978-86-7419-360-0

Summary

One of the most significant changes that occurred during the 20th century is the development of information technology. Globally, society has never been more dependent on the Internet, online platforms and online events than it is today. In addition to numerous positive aspects, there are also negative aspects that the scientific and technological revolution has given rise to – new forms of organized crime, including cyberterrorism. Cyberterrorism is a recent threat, insufficiently researched. It is a specific form of terrorism, not only in terms of the means used by cyberterrorists, but also because it takes place in a specific environment.

The author of this monograph, Prof. Dr. Ivana Luknar, examines one of the most important issues of today by considering other theoretical approaches as well as defining cyberterrorism on a national and international level. With a dynamic and thorough approach, it deals with social processes such as: globalization, pandemics, migration, climate change and energy crises, economic crisis and poverty, identity crisis and alienation and their impact on cybersecurity.

The book systematizes scientific research material on the current problem and points out the necessary elements for combating and preventing cyber terrorism, written in a clear scientific style, easily understandable to readers, regardless of previous knowledge of the research topic. Not only does it deal with the conceptual definition of terrorism, the author also goes further towards new concepts related to prevention and protection from cyber attacks: deterrence by punishment or deterrence by rejection.

What do these concepts actually mean? You will find in this monograph the challenges faced by the police in Serbia when uncovering high-tech crime, the level of development of the national anti-terrorist system of the Republic of Serbia, the relationship between cyber terrorism and organized crime, as well as answers to many other complex and interesting questions.
