MIGRATION: between invasion and the logic of profit

MIGRATION: between invasion and the logic of profit

Summary

The scientific monograph by Dr. Zoran Milosavljević, “Migration: Between Invasion and the Logic of Profit,” represents a thorough and long-term research into the phenomenon of migration. In the book, the author seeks to view migration in its full complexity, combining comparative studies and analytical approaches, thereby obtaining a realistic and critically grounded picture of the contemporary migration issue: integrate immigrants or prevent their influx? The research is primarily focused on the areas of Western Europe, but also encompasses the broader global context, including the United States and the problem of migration across the border with Mexico, as well as the region of Australia and Oceania. Special attention is also paid to the area of Central Europe through case studies of Germany and Hungary, which brings the topic closer to our regional context. The goal of this monograph is a comprehensive view of migration – as a socio-political, economic and security phenomenon.

The title of the book “Migration: Between Invasion and the Logic of Profit” symbolically refers to two opposing discourses: on the one hand, the security interpretation of migration as a threat, which should be responded to with legal and repressive measures, on the other hand, the economic logic of profit, which recognizes in migration a part of the mechanism of capitalist exploitation and global labor mobility. The author does not neglect the positive sides of migration either, emphasizing the contribution of immigrants to the social and economic development of receiving countries. The monograph is richly illustrated with maps, tables and other statistical indicators, which significantly contributes to its analytical value.
